WHEN MISTER WHITMAN SPEAKS OF 'MANLY LOVE'

When Mister Whitman speaks of 'manly love'
He sounds a 'barbaric yawp' over roofs
Lest Civil War little else he speaks of
Of his book it makes the warps and woofs
Less a book than hug sent with a kiss
Proclaiming comrade love to the world
A message only sleepers could miss
But he's not saying boys should be girled
Lap he lays in of 'camerado'
When he speaks 'Of Him I Love Day and Night'
Take his 'Tan-Faced Prairie-Boy' O!!
He wants most to set our country right
Where masculine love has lost regard
Therein he proclaims himself the bard.
