I ASKED THE WILLOW TREE—Part I

I asked the tree: 'Mr. Willow
  Why so low?
    Why drag your branches
      On the ground
  What sorrow do you know?'

'What did I do?'
  Asked the sad tree
'I went and sent him away
      I tried to catch him
      I tried to reach out
But, the wind refused to blow.'

'No, no, Mr. Willow
  You so soft and kind
Let wind tussle your branches low
    Set loose your worried mind.

'If anything it was my fault
It was I who sent him away
I was the one who waited
When it was my place to say:

'I love you.''
