IF I COULD WRITE A SONG

If I could write a song
That would make you come home
    I'd sing it to you
      Night-and-day.

If I came off too strong
  Like a busker in Rome
    It's because I so want
      You to stay.

You've been away too long
Or I'd just write a poem
    And hand you my heart
      On a tray.

When will you come along
Just how long must you roam
You know I'll be here for you
      Anyway.
